Pediatric Safe Dose Range Calculator
Checks an ordered pediatric dose against the recommended mg/kg/day range.
Formula
Daily range = mg/kg/day × weight
Per dose = daily amount ÷ number of doses per day
How it is used
- Look up the recommended mg/kg/day range in a pediatric drug reference; the numbers differ for each drug and indication.
- Compare the ordered dose with the range. Doses below the range may be ineffective; doses above it are unsafe.
- Some drugs also have an absolute maximum per dose that applies to larger children.
